Which BCBS plans

Anthem operates several network products in Georgia, and the differences matter:

Blue Open Access POS — common on employer plans, broad network, no referral required for most services

BlueChoice HMO — requires PCP designation; you'll need to name Dr. Thomas as your child's primary care physician

Blue High Performance Network (Blue HPN) — a narrower network product; verify participation specifically

Pathway / Pathway X — Anthem's ACA marketplace networks, typically narrower than employer plans

BlueCard — if you're covered by a Blue Cross plan from another state, BlueCard generally lets you receive in-network care here in Georgia. Bring your card; the suitcase logo indicates BlueCard eligibility.

Because network participation differs by product, please confirm with Anthem before your first visit. We're happy to provide our tax ID and Dr. Thomas's NPI so you can verify precisely — call (770) 746-7113

Moving from out of state?

If you're relocating to Johns Creek or Alpharetta with a Blue Cross plan from another state, BlueCard usually means you can see us at in-network rates. This is one of the most common questions we get from families moving into the area for work, and the answer is usually good news.

What's typically covered

Most ACA-compliant Anthem plans cover pediatric preventive care at 100%:

  • Well-child visits per the AAP schedule

  • Routine childhood immunizations

  • Developmental, behavioral, and autism screening

  • Vision and hearing screening

  • Newborn visits

Sick visits, procedures, and non-preventive services are subject to your plan's copay, coinsurance, or deductible. High-deductible Anthem plans are common in Georgia — worth understanding your deductible status before a sick visit so the bill isn't a surprise.

Newborns

Add your newborn to your Anthem policy within 30 days of birth. Coverage is generally retroactive to the date of birth once added, but the enrollment window is strict. We see newborns 1–2 days after hospital discharge.
